Casual day outfit - How to wear textures elegantly

To brace the gloomy chilling London weather, layering is a must. I own a very confusing piece - a thick faux fur vest with see-through straps, which barely offers warmth to the front half of my torso. Yet, it is definitely not a spring/summer piece. I decided to put it into good use, especially because faux fur is a winter staple (and winter is coming to an end).

A white shirt is quintessentially parisian chic, and absolutely a closet staple. I tend to thrift shirts that I will use for layering - tailoring and craftsmanship is important, but the white shirt is not the focal point of the outfit and you can get away with more.

Fashion is about finding balance, where everything is barely there and just enough - it is a subtle art. The accent piece of the outfit is certainly the faux fur vest. I refrained from wearing other pieces with 'loud' textures, such as velvet, sequins etc. - they each deserve their own spotlight without competition.

On the topic of balance, shape is also important. The cut of the top is boxy, which could be very tricky to wear, since it does not hug the waist. To counterbalance that silhouette, the classic skinny jeans are ideal. As the pieces at the top are off-white in colour, I think the outfit demands colour. Nothing too sharp to steal the scene, but pronounced enough to break the colour. I chose royal blue this time.

The shoes ties the entire outfit together (as they often do). I think the faux fur on the vest has a sort of 'grainy' texture, and I think these metallic flats echo that. Apart from that, the color of the flats are quite unique. It is a silver-gold duochrome colour - it is really quite stunning, especially at night. The off-white colour of the top matches gold better, and the royal blue colour of the jeans sit well with silver. The silhouette is also crucial for that chic look: the pointy toe. It elongates the leg and accentuates its slenderness. The lace-up detail gives it almost a romantic, tender sentiment - a la ballerina. These shoes kill three birds with one stone: it completes the outfit - colour, texture and style.
