All hail London Fashion Week #LFW. It is one of my favourite times of the year, and it is up there with Christmas. During LFW, it is as if the city has transformed. The fashionable people and their colourful and stylish outfits liven up the grey skyscrapers and grey skies of London. It is difficult not to know it is LFW, even more difficult yet to not be part of its havoc and wonder (even my taxi driver knew it is fashion week). I am ecstatic to be a part of LFW for two days. Here is my outfit for LFW day one.
The Accent Piece

It is all about balance. One of the most important tips I can give out is to choose one accent piece when you are wearing print, no matter what it is. I am never one for bold prints, so I went for a more demure paint splatter print. Paint splatter print is the perfect balance between a loud and a quiet print with the right amount of colour. One bonus is that you can DIY paint splatter on thrifted jeans, so you can pick your own colours. Having chosen the accent piece (mine being my paint-splatter jeans), the rest of the outfit should be more subdued and plain. Hence, I chose nude-coloured shoes and coat.
The Right Amount of Colour

Though there should be one accent piece, for this outfit, throwing in some colour is crucial. This is because my jeans are white – if I have gone for white/nude colour for my top too, the entire outfit would look washed out (just my opinion). I chose burgundy as my darker colour to balance the outfit out. Black would not be ideal in this case, because I think black sits uncomfortably with nude/camel tones.
Throw in the Unexpected Print

A tiny detail is like an after-credit scene – something that captures the interest of like-minded people who know what they are looking at/for. This chiffon shirt has a gold embroidered bee at each of the cuffs. It matches the burgundy, the nude colours and the yellow in the paint splatter perfectly. Though it is eye-catching, it does not steal the scene.
The Parisian Shirt

I think chiffon is extremely chic and elegant. In this outfit, it balances out the denim in terms of texture. Denim is quite structured, thus, the top needs to be more un-structured. Chiffon shirts are flowy and effortless - the epitome of Parisian chic.
I am loving this LFW madness. It is impossible not to love London during fashion week: It is like Christmas to me. 1-3-8 xx
